San Sebastian – The Monaco of the Basque country

Constantly looking for new and uncommon destinations, our recent travels led us to the Basque Country, City of San Sebastian or Donostia as it is referred to in the local Basque language. The Euskadi (Basque Country), is located between France and Spain. Linked in parts with both countries, this autonomous community and historic region still maintains it’s very strong, independent, unique culture and identity.

San Sebastian is certainly one of, if not, the most affluent city in the Basque country, with more than 180,000 inhabitants. Beautifully nestled on the southern part of the  Bay of Biscay,  its seafront location makes it a very popular destination for surfing and beach holidays.  The seaside location is further enhanced by the hilly surroundings. With a soft climate in winter and comfortable temperatures in summer, the city is a romantic and picturesque destination for weddings. Currently the EU international capital of culture for 2016 (shared with Warsaw, Poland), San Sebastian also plays host to annual International Film and Jazz festivals.

                           

You can enjoy your wedding week or weekend here by participating in a variety of experience activities including para sailing and the casino. With more michelin starred restaurants per square foot than any other place in the world, the local food is exotic and exquisite. Pintxos and the local wine Txakoli is a recommended gastronomical experience.
